brown rice fast 2009

it all started in 1996. in pemberton. i was attending a shiatsu course given by karen cruikshank and she was really into zen shiatsu aikido macrobiotic style. so we all had a deep practise of wildcrafting herbal macro style healing foods.
she made the class in the fall, do the brown rice fasting as an exercise in understanding alkalinity in the macrobiotic way. it was another aha in acid and alkaline. fortunate that that lesson has been a big piece of the human pie.
it was tough to do because of all the addictive habits we as a group had, we in the class got to hear all the issues of not being able to do the simple act of eliminating all our foods, down to one.
still i have an issue with that but i have in the last 13 years of practising, been able to par the stimulants down to a few.
the main thing is to not ingest fats, sugars, dairy and meat proteins. to use up our stores of it. to educate our palate to the alkaline foods.

simply, short grain brown rice, bancha tea, alkaline water. i now cheat with nori, braggs ( just a little spray ) and a few veggies if i am really bored. i also eat rice cakes if i feel like splurging.

i make my rice soft on some days so that it is gummy. i make lots of it incase i need to have an emergency meal. i eat as much or as little as i feel. it is about learning to sense the flavors of the rice, from the time it enters the mouth to the time you swallow. it also is important to teach the mouth to chew the food into liquid.
also i cheat with caffiene tea but i only have one a day if that.

i do it in the fall when the ground becomes cold so that i have it done before all the turkey dinners arrive. lol

good luck and be well
