organic lives.org

the other day i was dropping my kid off to mandarin school in chinatown, it was pouring rain and i was looking for things to do, other than going home to my office.  i went and pumped some gas.  as i drove onto second avenue, i realized that around the corner on 1829 quebec st  and second ave, right by the new olympic village was the new and exciting world of ORGANIC LIVES, www.organiclives.org preet marwaha is the founder…it is his brainchild and life work.

a huge site with a restaurant, retail space and  catering capacity – oh my it is heaven for me.  i need to learn to eat like this and since i am such a lazy cook, i know that i will be here weekly, if not daily.  the other great raw place is the Gorillia Food http://www.gorillafood.com/

veg burger at gorilla foods

which is downtown Vancouver on richard street and west pender street.

what i really love about ORGANICLIVES.ORG, opened november 2009, is that it is nearer to where i live and the parking is free.  i need to spend the money on food…not feeding the meters of the city of vancouver, bc.

as i am surrounded by some special people who are raw,  my buddy  sarinda hoilett  http://wildplanetrawfoods.com/ is a wonderful raw chef.  i am getting the gist of my learning curve when it comes to food as your medicine rather than as poisons.

i have type A blood type and according to the books, i do better on a vegetable diet.  being raised a chinese diet based on meat protein, i have a lot of brainwashing to undo.  as i mature, i am noticing that i loving the energy that i get when i include more raw in my mainly mainstream diet.  it is a balancing act, undoing the ads of the commercial business model and learning  the love of what really nourishes the body.

funny, today i was with my girlfriend angela, we have been friends since we were ten and i mentioned that i wanted to get a bowl of raw  tortilla soup at OL.org.    she told a story of herself about a chicken she had seen killed when she was a young girl.  how that had ruled her world, she will not eat fresh chickens and only frozen ones.  she mentioned this because we were also talking about organic and how she could not get herself to even buy organic chickens because they are yellow in color.

hopefully she will get over this and realize that the production of food has now degradated to a point where we should all learn what kinds of chemical they are putting into the feeds and sprays that layer and infuse into the commercial produce.  i bet the chicken that was killed by her grandfather back then was yellow because it was technically organic since it was raised it their back yard.

people shape their eating to the stories of their lives.   people have to learn where they get their food and how it is grown.   to become  conscious about what food is and what it does to me, that i am willing to take that extra step to learn.

i was fortunate that when i was 25, i was interested in shaping my world through food.  i was eating blue green algae AFA from klamath falls oregon and eating organic vegetables bought in burlap sacks from the organic farmers in pemberton, bc.   i went completely 180% from my roots.  i was extremely macrobiotic for about 10 years.

since then, i have centered myself so that i eat as healthy as i can but really, i want to get back to the other side. since this is a year for me to slow down, i am glad that this place is near me and i can enjoy the flavors and concoctions that they will invent in the upcoming years of operation.  they are open 9 am to 9pm, everyday!  they will have brunch starting soon.

another serendipitous moment was that i had met one of the investors, Dylan Armour,  that day that i was in the store and we had a great conversation together.  he is a very charismatic man.  his wife, Tanya Slingsby http://www.tanyaslingsby.com/ is a famous painter  and i had the pleasure to meet her last year when she was given a massage with me by her art patron who is my massage client.  what a small world.  she mentioned that her husband was opening a raw restaurant but i never though it was going to be such a massive endeavour.  i figure it was going to be a hole in the wall but i was wrong.

guess what they have a ionized alkaline water system in their state of the art complex offering ionwater for sale on site.  now that is a dream that i want for every restaurant in town.  it is a commercial model but sadly Ionways does not have a commercial model – it is coming,  but not soon enough for me.

i managed to talk to Dylan about water and he knew what i was saying.  i also was able to explain my biofeedback business to him and he got it.  it was a moment when i realize that i was in the right place at the right moment and that gives me much peace/piece that i will succeed at creating my blog as i believe it should be.

hallelujah!
